This post is for general information only and is not financial advice. Rates and offers are for Canadian residents and were accurate as of October 24, 2026. Promotional savings offers change frequently and can be pulled early, so confirm the terms on the institution's own site before moving money.
If your savings account has been paying 4.60% this fall, check your calendar. Simplii Financial's headline 4.60% new-customer promo ends on October 31, 2026, and it is far from the only offer expiring in the next few weeks. Beem Credit Union's 5.00% promo ends the same day, RBC's 4.60% offer has an October 27 enrollment deadline, and a whole wave of Tangerine targeted promos rolls off at the end of October and November.
This is the part of promo-chasing that actually matters: what happens the day after the promo ends, and where the money goes next. Below is every major Canadian HISA promo with a fall 2026 expiry, what your rate drops to when it ends, and a practical plan for each one.
Key takeaways
- Simplii's 4.60% five-month new-customer promo ends October 31, 2026. The rate applies to eligible deposits up to $200,000; after the promo, the account reverts to Simplii's regular tiered rate of 0.30% to 1.00%.
- Beem Credit Union's 5.00% new-deposit promo also ends October 31, 2026 (BC residents only), and RBC's 4.60% three-month new-customer offer requires opening before 3 p.m. ET on October 27, 2026.
- A Tangerine targeted wave (4.10% to 4.25% for existing customers) ends October 31, while another Tangerine targeted promo runs to November 30, 2026. Tangerine's 4.50% new-customer offer is open to accounts opened by November 30, 2026.
- When a promo ends, your money silently drops to the regular rate. At Tangerine and Simplii that regular rate is 0.30% on typical balances, a cliff of more than four percentage points. Nothing forces you to act, which is exactly how banks keep the deposits.
- The best everyday (non-promo) rates as of October 22, 2026: Saven Financial 2.85%, Oaken Financial 2.80%, and EQ Bank 2.75% with a qualifying direct deposit. These are the no-drama parking spots between promos.
The October deadlines: Simplii, Beem, RBC, and a Tangerine wave
October 31 is the big one. Here is everything confirmed to expire or require action before the end of the month, with the details that actually affect your decision.
Offer | Rate and term | Deadline | What it reverts to |
|---|---|---|---|
Simplii Financial (new customers) | 4.60% for 5 months, eligible deposits up to $200,000 | Offer ends Oct 31, 2026 | Regular tiered rate: 0.30% to 1.00% by balance |
Beem Credit Union (BC only, new deposits) | 5.00% | Promo ends Oct 31, 2026 | Beem's regular posted rate |
RBC (new customers, first High Interest eSavings) | 4.60% for 3 months | Must open before 3 p.m. ET Oct 27, 2026 | RBC's regular eSavings rate |
Tangerine (targeted existing customers) | 4.10% to 4.25% on new deposits | Wave runs Aug 6 to Oct 31, 2026 | Regular 0.30% |
Manulife Bank (new Advantage Account, non-registered) | 3.00% for 2 years | Must open by Oct 30, 2026 | Manulife's regular rate after 2 years |
A few notes on the fine print, because this is where promo-chasers get burned.
Simplii's 4.60% is a new-customer offer: it applies for the first five months on eligible deposits up to $200,000, and the account itself has no monthly fee and no minimum balance. When the five months are up, you land on the regular tiered rate, which is 0.30% on balances up to $50,000. That is the cliff: 4.60% to 0.30%, a 4.3 percentage point drop, on whatever you leave sitting there.
RBC's offer is the most time-sensitive in a different way: the deadline is not the end of the rate but the enrollment cutoff. You must open the account before 3 p.m. ET on October 27, 2026 to get the 4.60% for three months. Miss the window and the offer is gone entirely.
The Tangerine targeted wave ending October 31 is the Aug 6 to Oct 31 cohort paying 4.10% to 4.25% to selected existing customers. Targeted means you cannot sign up for it: either Tangerine offered it to you or it did not. If you are on this wave, your rate drops to 0.30% on November 1 unless Tangerine rolls you into a new targeted offer.
Manulife's is the odd one out and worth a second look: 3.00% for two full years on a non-registered Advantage Account opened by October 30, 2026. It is lower than the headline 4.60% promos, but two years of a guaranteed 3.00% with no rate-chasing is a legitimate strategy for money you will not need soon.

November and December: the next wave of expiries
The promo calendar does not go quiet after Halloween. Here is what expires or closes to new entrants through year-end.
- Steinbach Credit Union: 4.60% for 4 months for new customers, expires November 2, 2026. One of the last high-rate new-customer offers still open in early November.
- Tangerine new customers: 4.50% for the first 5 months, for accounts opened by November 30, 2026. This is the natural landing spot for anyone whose Simplii promo just ended and who has never been a Tangerine customer.
- Tangerine targeted existing customers: 3.90% to 4.50%, running September 5 to November 30, 2026. If you are on this wave, December 1 is your cliff date.
- Simplii targeted existing customers: 3.00% to 3.30% on new deposits, enrollment from October 7, 2026 to January 31, 2027. Note the mechanics: the special rate applies only to the "Additional Balance," meaning deposits above your October 1, 2026 closing balance, up to $1,000,000 per HISA. Money that was already sitting there on October 1 keeps earning the regular rate.
- Meridian Credit Union: 4.40% for 6 months on new deposits, for accounts opened by December 31, 2026. Six months is a long runway by promo standards.
- CIBC eAdvantage: up to 4.60% for the first 3 months for new accounts. Watch the transaction costs: eAdvantage charges $5 per transaction with limited exceptions, which can eat the promo edge on an account you touch often.
- Scotiabank: up to 5.00% for the first 3 months on a first savings account. BMO: up to 5.00% for the first 120 days on the Savings Amplifier account. Both are worth comparing against the digital-bank promos if you already bank with the Big Five.
One name you will not see on this calendar: Neo Financial. As of late October 2026, there is no confirmed Neo promo with a fall expiry; Neo's savings rate sits around 2.00% to 2.75% depending on membership. If a Neo offer appears, it belongs on a future refresh, not here.

What happens when a promo ends
Nothing dramatic. That is the problem.
When a promotional rate expires, your account does not close, your money does not move, and nobody emails you a warning. The rate simply reverts to the institution's regular posted rate on the day after expiry. At Tangerine and Simplii, that regular rate is 0.30% on typical balances. Your $50,000 that was earning about $192 a month at 4.60% starts earning about $12.50 a month. The bank is counting on exactly this: promo-chasing is profitable for banks precisely because a large share of customers never move the money.
There are three mechanics worth understanding before your expiry date arrives.
First, the promo usually applies to new money, not your whole balance. Simplii's targeted existing-customer offer is explicit: the 3.00% to 3.30% special rate applies only to the Additional Balance above your October 1, 2026 closing balance. Tangerine's targeted offers work the same way, on new deposits during the promo window. If you moved $40,000 in and already had $60,000 sitting there, only the $40,000 earns the promo rate.
Second, the regular rate can be tiered. Simplii pays 0.30% up to $50,000, 0.50% to $100,000, 0.60% to $500,000, 0.70% to $1,000,000, and 1.00% above $1,000,000. None of those tiers are competitive, but it is worth knowing which one you land in.
Third, promos are not stackable with the regular rate in the way people hope. You earn the promo rate or the regular rate on each dollar, not both. And interest on promo balances is still fully taxable as interest income outside a registered account.
The practical consequence: set a calendar reminder for one week before each promo ends, not the day it ends. Transfers between institutions take one to three business days, and a weekend plus a holiday can easily eat a week.

Where to move the money next
You have four honest options when a promo expires. Which one fits depends on your balance, your patience for paperwork, and when you need the money.
Option 1: Chase the next promo. If your Simplii 4.60% ends October 31 and you have never been a Tangerine customer, Tangerine's 4.50% for five months (open by November 30) is the cleanest next hop. Steinbach's 4.60% for four months (expires November 2) is another. This is the highest-rate path and the highest-effort one: a new application, new login, new transfer, every few months.
Option 2: Park at an everyday-rate leader. As of October 22, 2026, Saven Financial pays 2.85% with no promo games, Oaken Financial pays 2.80%, and EQ Bank pays 2.75% if you set up a qualifying recurring direct deposit of at least $2,000 per month (its base rate without the bonus was recently raised from 1.00% to 1.50%). You will earn less than the best promo, but you will never fall off a cliff, and you will never think about it. For most people with mid-size balances, this is the right answer.
Option 3: Lock a GIC. If the money is truly not needed for a year or more, a GIC removes the rate-chasing entirely. As of late October 2026, the best 18-month GIC rates include Hubert Financial at 3.90%, DUCA at 3.85% (Ontario), and Oaken at 3.80%. Our November GIC rate guide tracks these monthly.
Option 4: Ask your current bank for a retention offer. This works better than people expect, especially at Tangerine. Both Tangerine and Simplii run rolling targeted offers for existing customers; a phone call or a check of your offers tab sometimes surfaces one. It costs nothing to ask, and the worst outcome is a no.
One structural note: CDIC deposit insurance applies per institution, up to $100,000 per category per member institution. Promo-chasing across five banks is fine, but keep each institution's total under the CDIC limit if that protection matters to you. Simplii deposits are CDIC-protected through its backing by CIBC.

Practical next steps
- This week: If you are on Simplii's 4.60% new-customer promo, confirm your exact five-month end date in your account (it is five months from when you opened, and the offer itself ends October 31, 2026). Set a reminder for seven days before it expires.
- Before October 27, 3 p.m. ET: Decide on RBC's 4.60% three-month offer. That is the enrollment cutoff, and it does not come back.
- Before November 1: If you are on the Tangerine 4.10% to 4.25% targeted wave ending October 31, line up your next home for the money now. The two cleanest options are Tangerine's new-customer 4.50% (if eligible) or an everyday-rate account at Saven, Oaken, or EQ.
- Check for targeted offers before you move. Log in to Tangerine and Simplii and check the offers or promotions tab. A new targeted wave may already be waiting, and it is less paperwork than a new institution.
- Time your transfers. Inter-institution transfers take one to three business days. Initiate the move at least a week before the promo ends so you are earning the new rate on day one.
- Mind the tax wrapper. If the savings are for a home down payment, check whether your FHSA room is filled before chasing taxable HISA promos. Inside a registered account, the promo interest is sheltered.
The bottom line
October 31, 2026 is the day Canada's best savings promo dies: Simplii's 4.60% for five months, plus Beem's 5.00% and the end of a Tangerine targeted wave. The money does not disappear when the promo ends; it just starts earning 0.30% while you are not looking. Check your expiry dates this week, give yourself a week of transfer lead time, and either hop to the next promo or park the money somewhere that pays a real everyday rate. The banks are betting you will do nothing. Prove them wrong.

Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
01
What happens when my Simplii promo rate ends on October 31?
Your rate reverts to Simplii's regular posted rate, which is tiered from 0.30% to 1.00% depending on balance (0.30% on balances up to $50,000). The 4.60% promo applied for five months on eligible deposits up to $200,000. Move the money before the expiry if you want to keep earning a competitive rate.
02
Does the Simplii promo rate apply to my whole balance?
For new customers, the 4.60% rate applied to eligible deposits up to $200,000 for the first five months. For existing customers on the targeted offer, the 3.00%-3.30% special rate applies only to the 'Additional Balance,' meaning new deposits above your October 1, 2026 closing balance, up to $1,000,000 per HISA. Your existing balance keeps earning the regular rate.
03
Can I get another promo rate after mine expires?
Sometimes. Tangerine and Simplii both run rolling targeted offers for existing customers, so check your inbox and your account dashboard. If no new offer appears, the standard move is to open an account at a different institution running a new-customer promo, or park the money at an everyday-rate leader like Saven Financial (2.85%) or EQ Bank (2.75% with direct deposit), rates as of October 22, 2026.
04
Is it worth moving money for a short promo?
Do the math on your balance. On $50,000, the gap between a 4.60% promo and a 0.30% regular rate is roughly $179 a month before tax. On $5,000, it is about $18 a month. For large balances and short-term savings like a down payment fund, chasing promos pays. For small balances, the paperwork may not be worth it.
05
Are HISA promo rates taxed in Canada?
Yes. Interest earned in a non-registered HISA is fully taxable as interest income at your marginal rate. If your savings sit inside a TFSA or FHSA, the interest grows tax-free within the account. Promo rates do not change the tax treatment.
